Industry
1
Supplies for the mine are stored at the loading dock and brought into the mine when needed in empty coal cars. These include a thrower for switching the tracks and spare track, compressed air hoses, a chain for a coal conveyer or miner's jalopy, a 15 HP electric motor to run a conveyor or shaker chute, a portable blow fan to bring additional ventilation to a chamber, conveyor pans used to extend a conveyor, mine timber, cap pieces or wedges and track supports made of hard wood, safety cable previously used on the Lackawanna Mine Tour car, boards used in mine construction as brattice and lashing boards, barrel pulleys used to keep the wire rope from rubbing against the timber on the curve of the mine slope, shaker pans and cradles, curved stress arches used for roof support, straight yielding mine props used in place of timber props, and collars used for roof protection. Some of the mine timber has had the bark removed, as peeled timber lasts longer in the mine.
