Sunset Peak is a 10,201-foot mountain in the Absaroka Range of southern Montana, about 3.75 miles northwest of Cooke City, in the northeastern corner of Yellowstone National Park along the boundary with Custer-Gallatin National Forest. In this high, rugged part of the Rocky Mountains, it is notable for strong local relief, with its summit rising about 1,600 feet above nearby streams within a mile. Its north slope drains toward the Stillwater River headwaters, while its southwest and southeast slopes feed Pebble Creek and Sheep Creek in the Lamar River watershed. The peak lies in a subarctic climate, and its name has been officially recognized and recorded since at least 1901.
