Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church is the oldest church in Franklin Parish. A campground established in 1806 at Boeuf Prairie, the first permanent settlement in the area, became the site of a true house of worship in 1833. After Franklin Parish was formed in 1843, the church served for a time as the courthouse.
