Altair Peak is one of the highest summits in Idaho’s Pioneer Mountains, rising 11,825 feet in Salmon-Challis National Forest. Ranked seventh in its range and twenty-fifth in the state, it stands among a tightly clustered group of major peaks between Standhope Peak and Pyramid Peak. Its southern base includes the Bear Canyon SNOTEL site, underscoring the snowy high-country conditions that characterize this part of central Idaho.
