Harkers Canyon
Nature
Harkers Canyon lies on the far western side of the Salt Lake City area, descending from the Oquirrh Mountains into the Salt Lake Valley near Bacchus and State Route 111. Roughly 12 kilometers long, it drops from high ground near Nelson Peak to the valley floor and includes Crystal Spring near its head. Modern industry has shaped the canyon alongside natural erosion: Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation owns and manages the land, and copper has been mined there, though on a lesser scale than in nearby Bingham Canyon. The area also falls within a Utah wildlife management unit, and future trail development could improve public access.
