Olson Nature Preserve is a 112-acre site on Beaver Creek in east-central Nebraska at the eastern edge of the Sandhills, valued as both a protected landscape and an outdoor classroom. Its close mix of prairie, meadows, wetlands, woodland, loess hills, and a sandy canyon supports varied plant and animal life and offers broad views from an oak escarpment ridge. The land also carries deeper human history, from Native American presence and nineteenth-century hunting grounds to the reported death of Chief Logan Fontenelle nearby in 1855. Created from land donated by Grant and Bernice Olson, it was placed in Prairie Plains Resource Institute ownership in 1995 and continues to be maintained for public use, education, and conservation.
