Svend O. Heiberg Memorial Forest is a 3,800-acre research and teaching forest in central New York operated by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Spanning parts of Onondaga and Cortland counties, it began in 1948 with 1,650 acres acquired in exchange for the Salamanca Forest and was first called Tully Experimental Forest. In 1965 it was renamed for Svend O. Heiberg, a former associate dean at the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University. Today it combines managed woodland, classrooms, and research facilities with public recreation, including trails, fishing ponds, and seasonal Christmas tree sales.
