Skylands is a historic estate in Ringwood State Park in northern New Jersey, where Skylands Manor and the New Jersey State Botanical Garden form one of the state's most important early 20th-century designed landscapes. Created in the 1920s for Clarence MacKenzie Lewis, the estate featured a 44-room Tudor Revival manor designed by John Russell Pope, formal gardens, specimen plantings, and a nine-hole golf course. Around 1950 Shelton College began using the property as a campus, but in 1966 New Jersey purchased it and established the state botanical garden. Known for its historic garden design and rich horticultural collections, Skylands was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
