The Medicine Mound Depot was built by the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway as a passenger and freight station in an area where Chief Quanah Parker's Comanches prayed and rolled in gypsum, believing it was healing dust. Later known as the Santa Fe Station, it was the site of holdups and shooting. It still has bullet holes but escaped a 1935 fire that burned the entire town. It was retired from use in 1959 and was moved via Highway 287 to its present site.
