Paul B. Johnson State Park in southern Mississippi is a public recreation area on Geiger Lake near McLaurin, south of Hattiesburg. Named for Mississippi’s forty-sixth governor, it centers on a 225-acre lake created in the mid-1940s by German prisoners of war from nearby Camp Shelby, giving the park a distinctive wartime link. Surrounded by rolling Pine Belt hills with southern yellow pines, oaks, and dogwoods, the park combines natural scenery with developed outdoor recreation. Geiger Lake supports fishing, swimming, and water skiing, and the park offers campsites, RV hookups, cabins, picnic areas, pavilions, playgrounds, and a splash pad for year-round use.
