Greenup Association was formed in 1841 in the log meeting house of Palmyra Baptist Church, once located near here. John Young (1764–1855), an early settler on the Little Sandy River and Palmyra’s pastor, enlisted two other churches from across the Ohio River to form the association. By 1991, its sequicentennial year, the original three churches had grown to fifty.
