Built in 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Jensen Point was part of the Henry Shaw Gardenway, a beautification project of the National Park Service and the Missouri State Highway Commission. The overlook was dedicated to Lars Peter Jensen, the first president of the Henry Shaw Gardenway Association and manager of the Shaw Arboretum (Missouri Botanical Garden).
