North Riverside, Illinois · 22 June 1918

The Hagenbeck-Wallace circus train wreck caused the greatest loss of life in any train wreck related to a circus. Eighty-six souls perished when an empty troop train ran a signal and crashed into the rear of the stationary Hagenbeck-Wallace circus train at Ivanhoe Tower in Hammond, Indiana. This group of fifty-six grave markers is dedicated to unnamed, unclaimed, and unrecognizable men and women who died in the train wreck and subsequent fire.
