Alderwood State Wayside is a year-round day-use park on Oregon Route 36, managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Covering about 76 acres along the Long Tom River, it was acquired from Lane County in 1931 and developed as a picnic site around 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The park includes picnic tables, toilets, and a hiking trail that follows the river through the grounds. Its significance lies in its natural setting, with mature Douglas firs, Pacific dogwoods, and bigleaf maples, seasonal wildflowers, and wildlife such as kingfishers and cutthroat trout, while drawing about 45,000 visitors each year.
