Mount Bierstadt is a 14,064.5-foot peak in Colorado’s Front Range and one of the state’s fourteeners. Named for Albert Bierstadt, it is linked to his first recorded summit in 1863, when he sketched the surrounding country and later drew on the trip for A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie, though accounts differ on which nearby summit he and guide William Byers reached beyond the Chicago Lakes area. Close to Denver and considered non-technical by Colorado standards, it has become one of Colorado’s most popular climbs. The standard ascent from Guanella Pass is 7 miles round trip, with a Class 2 finish, and some hikers continue toward Mount Blue Sky along the harder Sawtooth ridge.
