Kissing Couple is a prominent sandstone pillar in Colorado National Monument on the west side of Monument Canyon, named for a silhouette that resembles an embracing pair. Rising about 400 feet, it is a remnant of an eroded sandstone fin, composed mainly of Wingate Sandstone deposited as desert dunes around 200 million years ago, with a Kayenta Formation cap and Chinle Formation slopes above much older Precambrian rock. The tower also contains a small natural arch. It holds a place in Colorado climbing history through its first ascent in 1960 and first free ascent in 1977, and it remains a recognizable scenic and climbing landmark.
