Butterfly World, in Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, Florida, opened in 1988 as the first butterfly park of its kind in the Western Hemisphere and has been described as the largest in the world. Developed from Ronald Boender’s butterfly-raising work and a partnership with Clive Farrell, it was designed to unite public display, butterfly farming, and research. The site includes walk-through aviaries, gardens, a butterfly emerging area, laboratory viewing, hummingbird and lorikeet exhibits, and collections of passion flower vines. It also supports conservation through Passiflora Society International and work connected to reintroducing the Schaus swallowtail to southern Florida.
