Coral Springs Covered Bridge, a forty-foot covered road bridge over N.W. 95th Avenue just south of Wiles Road, was built in early 1964 as the first permanent structure in Coral Springs and remains Florida’s only publicly accessible covered bridge. Designed by George Hodapp and built by Lewie Mullins and George Porter for Coral Ridge Properties, it featured a steel span beneath a shingled, trussed superstructure. Originally painted barn red, it served developer James S. Hunt’s vision of Coral Springs as a planned “City in the Country.” Tobacco-themed murals were added to give it an older look, and its image later appeared in the city seal as a symbol of Coral Springs’ early identity.
