The Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, known as the Ma and Pa Railroad, was once an integral part of Harford County's transportation network. In August 1999, the county's Parks and Recreation Department opened the Ma and Pa Trail along much of the former railroad's route as a permanent and useful memorial to that history. Supporters saw the trail as a way to remember the past while celebrating the future, and it was made easily accessible for a new generation of travelers. Nature lovers and local hikers enjoy the trail, while a caboose that once traveled these tracks remains on permanent display at Jones Junction. The Jones family, whose automotive business has met community transportation needs since 1917, provided the parking lots and had long supported Harford County community events and organizations.
