Draughon Cross Roads was named for George and Hardy Draughon, brothers who came from Edgecombe County about 1795 and purchased land joining both roads. George lived near this spot, then later moved to 9/10 mile beyond Beamon’s Cross Roads on Hwy. No. 421, where he died and was buried in 1866 at age 94. Two sons, Gary and James, lived here from marriage until death between 1850 and 1854. Hardy lived one mile south at the next crossroads, where he died and was buried in 1841 at age 74.
