Averasboro Battlefield and Museum in Dunn, North Carolina preserves the site of the Battle of Averasborough, fought on March 16, 1865. Established in 1994 by the Averasboro Battlefield Commission, Inc., it connects interpretation of the Civil War campaign to the ground where the fighting occurred. The battlefield was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in May 2001, underscoring its significance. Its grounds also include the restored Chicora Civil Cemetery, adding a memorial aspect. Preservation efforts have been central here, with the Civil War Trust, now part of the American Battlefield Trust, and its partners protecting 520 acres of the battlefield.
