Pierce National Wildlife Refuge is a protected wildlife area in southwest Washington within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, along the north shore of the Columbia River west of North Bonneville. It contains diverse wetlands and uplands, including riparian forest, transitional woodlands, improved pastures with some native grasses, and many creeks, seeps, and springs. Hardy Creek flows through the refuge and supports one of the Columbia River’s last remaining chum salmon runs, along with small remnant runs of coho, steelhead, and Chinook. The refuge headquarters also serves Steigerwald Lake and Franz Lake National Wildlife Refuges, while public access remains limited.
