Elowah Falls is a 213-foot waterfall on McCord Creek in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, within the John B. Yeon State Scenic Corridor. Also known as McCord Creek Falls, it forms where the creek is forced through a narrow channel between sheer cliffs before dropping rapidly into a natural amphitheater of layered basalt. The area around the falls is notably lush, with lichens and mosses covering much of the ground beneath and around other plants, contributing to its damp, green character. Originally called McCord Falls, it was renamed Elowah in 1915 at the urging of the Mazamas, though the meaning of the name is unknown.
