Whaleback in Enfield, New Hampshire, is a local ski area with eighty-five acres of terrain on thirty trails, serving beginner through advanced skiers. It began in 1956 as Snow Crest Ski Area, developed by Ernest Dion, closed in 1968, and reopened in 1970 under the Whaleback name after Jim Griffiths revived it. Known in the 1970s as a community hill, it later changed owners several times before closing in 2001. After renovations under Evan Dybvig, it reopened for the 2005–2006 season but closed again in 2013 under heavy debt. Local supporters then organized a nonprofit, raised funds, bought the mountain, and preserved it as a community ski hill.
