Meriden Bridge in Plainfield, New Hampshire, carries Colby Hill Road over Bloods Brook and is one of the state’s few surviving 19th-century covered bridges. Built about 1880 by noted regional bridge builder James Tasker of nearby Cornish, it is a single-span multiple Kingpost truss bridge measuring 85 feet long and 16 feet wide, with a one-lane roadbed. Its partly enclosed sides, narrow truss panels, and iron-rod-fastened chords reflect its historic construction. Rehabilitated several times, including a complete rebuilding in 1963 with concrete abutments and steel beams, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 for its age and rarity.
