In 1833, Peter Pindar Pease became the first settler of Oberlin, building his cabin under the Historic Elm near this site. In 1834, he became a charter member of the Board of Trustees of the newly established Oberlin College and remained a trustee until his death in 1861. He is remembered for his contributions to the Oberlin College community.
