New Melle, Missouri, and Melle, Germany, are linked through a sister-city relationship reflected in photographs of both communities, including aerial views, churches, and matching public statues. JoAnn Hammel, president of the New Melle Friendship Society, appears with sculptor Johann Janikowski in front of the sister-city statue in Melle, Germany. The images include St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Melle at sunset in 2005; St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Melle and St. John's United Church of Christ in Cappeln, Missouri, as they appeared in 1991; and an aerial postcard view of Melle showing St. Peters Protestant Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. Matthew Catholic Church. The sister-city statue in Market Square in Melle was sculpted by Johann Janikowski and erected in 1986, and a replica, New Hopes, New Dreams, New Melle, also sculpted by Janikowski, was dedicated in New Melle on October 22, 2005.
