In February 1945, 2nd Lieutenant Sid Goldstein of the U.S. Army's 34th Infantry Division received the Distinguished Service Cross from 5-star General George C. Marshall on a World War II battlefield in Italy after single-handedly capturing 67 Germans. He also received the Italian Cross of Valor for breaking through the Gothic Line and helping liberate Florence, Italy. A veteran of the Korean War, he later became National Commander of the Legion of Valor and was remembered as a 41-year Westminster resident, Major Sid Goldstein, U.S. Army (retired), honored for his heroism and service to veterans.
