South Park is a 900-square-mile grassland basin in the center of Colorado. In 1994, a group of local ranchers gathered to discuss the future of South Park's authentic landscape, and from that meeting a vision emerged for preserving its abundant open spaces, wildlife, water resources, historic buildings, and western heritage. In 1996, Colorado's Governor designated South Park a State Heritage Area to conserve its most outstanding local resources and utilize them to generate new sustainable economies. As people discover what makes South Park one of Colorado's last great places, they understand their role in determining its future.
