South Park is a 900-square-mile grassland basin in the center of Colorado. In 1994, a group of local ranchers gathered to discuss the future of South Park's authentic landscape, and from that meeting a vision emerged for preserving its abundant open spaces, wildlife, water resources, historic buildings, and western heritage. In 1996, Colorado's Governor designated South Park a State Heritage Area to conserve its most outstanding local resources and utilize them to generate new sustainable economies.
