Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is a state-run museum on the Springs Preserve campus that presents the region’s natural history and the story of Las Vegas’s development. Part of the Nevada state museum system, it began at Lorenzi Park, where an earlier site opened in 1982. Its name changed in 2008 as it prepared to move, and its current location opened in October 2011 after budget constraints left the completed building unused for two years. The museum includes 11,000 square feet of permanent exhibition space, featuring regional history, a 13-foot articulated mammoth skeleton, and exhibits on Las Vegas’s entertainment past. It is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
