The Reading Public Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania, developed from a school-focused private institution founded in 1904 into one of eastern Pennsylvania’s leading cultural institutions. Its campus along Wyomissing Creek includes the Neag Planetarium and a 25-acre arboretum, and its broad collections encompass art, science, and cultural history, with more than 280,000 objects and specimens. American art has been a particular strength since 1913, joined by European painting, sculpture, ancient Mediterranean art, Asian art, and arms and armor. Known for ambitious exhibitions and early support of emerging artists, it also occupies a notable Beaux-Arts building opened in 1928.
