In 1792, Gilbert Christian received 1280 acres through North Carolina Grant No. 205. His son George Christian was active in Overton County government, serving as County Commissioner in 1807, Justice of the Peace in 1810, and Trustee of Overton County in 1813. After volunteering to fight Indians, George joined the army at Ish's Station. The Christian family donated the land for the old log Bethlehem Church, and both it and the current brick building stood on the Old Standing Stone Road that ran through the farm. George Christian, his wife Elizabeth, daughters Eliza and Adeline, and several unknown people are buried in the family cemetery on the farm. The white farmhouse standing there today was built in 1902. The Christian family name remained on the land records for 181 years, until A. E. Christian sold the land in 1973 to Millard V. and R. L. Oakley. Millard and his wife, J. Annette Oakley, raised cattle on the farm, which was recognized as the oldest pioneer county farm in Overton County and the Upper Cumberland area.
