Cherry Grove Seminary, a Cumberland Presbyterian school, stood on the knoll west of this spot. It was founded by George Latimer, a grandson of Col. Jonathan Latimer, and served the community as church and school for thirty years, when it was united with the school at Lincoln, Illinois.
