Baker Mountain is a community ski area in Moscow, Maine, located on the southern end of Pierce Hill rather than on Baker Mountain itself. It began in 1930 through the efforts of Allen Quimby Jr., a Bingham veneer mill operator and avid skier, who installed the first rope tow in the 1930s; a second followed in the 1940s. In 1968, the rope tows were replaced by a T-bar lift serving the open slope. With five runs, including beginner and intermediate trails, it remains a modest, volunteer-run hill and a long-standing center of local winter recreation and ski instruction during school vacations.
