Moxie Falls, in Somerset County, Maine, is a major waterfall on Moxie Stream between Moxie Pond and the Kennebec River. Dropping more than 90 feet into a pool about 17 feet deep, it ranks among New England’s highest falls. The site lies about 5 miles below Moxie Pond and roughly 1 kilometer above the stream’s junction with the Kennebec, reached by a hiking trail ending at a boardwalk overlook. Nearby upstream pools are used for swimming. The surrounding landscape was once tied to logging and rail service, but after the Maine Central Railroad’s Kineo branch was dismantled in 1933, the area became better known for scenery and hiking.
