From 1892 to 1974, these islands were home to keepers and their families. They are now a community restoration project rebuilding a highly visible symbol of maritime heritage and dependence on the sea, and are intended as a future site for learning about the environment, coastal navigation, and maritime safety, as well as a place for adventure, summer outings, and overnight stays.
