In the 1800's, Long Eddy had two ferries crossing the Delaware River, one at the end of Ferry Street and the other at the end of the Long Eddy. Guided across the river by a cable and powered by the river's flow, the scows were angled one way so the current pushed them across and angled the opposite way for the return trip. Wagons reached the ferry landing in Pennsylvania by River Road, visible from here midway on the hillside across the river, and the ferry cable and mooring ring can still be found today on the Pennsylvania side.
