Simon B. Elliott State Park is a 318-acre wooded park in Pine Township, north of Clearfield, surrounded by Moshannon State Forest. Its second-growth oaks and northern hardwoods stand on land reshaped by Clearfield County’s lumber era, when heavy logging stripped once pine- and hemlock-covered mountainsides and left erosion and fire damage behind. Pennsylvania later bought and reforested much of this cutover land. Named for conservationist and legislator Simon B. Elliott, who promoted replanting to curb erosion and wildfires, the park was established in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose workers built many of the cabins, roads, pavilions, and trails still used for rustic recreation today.
