Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park is a secluded California park along the Van Duzen River that preserves coast redwood groves in three separate units away from the main traffic of U.S. Route 101. It began in 1943 through a donation by Owen R. Cheatham, founder of Georgia-Pacific Corporation, who sought to protect the forest permanently, and it later expanded to 430 acres. In 1983, Cheatham Grove was added through the Save the Redwoods League. Known for its quiet setting, short trail, albino redwood, and connection to Return of the Jedi, the park also survived proposed state closure plans through reduced services and maintenance.
