Pawling Nature Reserve is a 1,060-acre protected area in northern Pawling, New York, along Hammersby Ridge near Quaker Lake. Owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy, it was acquired in 1958 from a local citizens' group and preserved for its ecological value and sweeping Harlem Valley views. Its habitats support several distinct natural communities, including rare or threatened New York species such as devil's bit, soapwort gentian, maidenhair spleenwort, and some salamander communities. The land also helps protect the Great Swamp watershed, and more than 10 miles of trails, including part of the Appalachian Trail, make it a notable destination for hikers and scenic overlooks.
