The N.S.D.A.R. memorial honors the pioneer mothers of the covered wagon days. It stands along the first military road in America, beginning at Rock Creek and Potomac River in Georgetown, Maryland, and leading pioneers across the continent to the Pacific. Over this highway marched the army of Major General Edward Braddock on April 14, 1755, on its way to Fort Duquesne. This route was the National Old Trails Road.
