Military
In 1946, the 62d Troop Carrier Group received its first C-82s while stationed at Bergstrom, Texas, and later moved to McChord AFB on August 15, 1947. The unit gained valuable experience during Project Yukon, an operation that involved airlifting an Army infantry company and its equipment between McChord and Alaska. Between 1948 and 1949, the 62d TCG delivered flood relief supplies to several locations in Washington and Oregon and, in Operation Hayride, airdropped tons of hay to stranded livestock in the Midwest during an unusually harsh winter. C-82s flew from McChord until 1949 with the 62d TCG's 4th TCS, 7th TCS, and 8th TCS.
