The Yakina are the traditional people of this land. Land acknowledgements are a way to insert awareness of Indigenous presence and land rights into everyday life, often at the beginning of ceremonies, lectures, and education guides. They offer an explicit yet limited recognition of the history of colonialism and First Nations, as well as the need for change in settler-colonial societies. Native Lands is presented as an educational map that is imperfect and does not represent or intend to represent official or legal boundaries of any Indigenous nations, and definitive boundaries should be learned from the nation itself.
