Old Sulphur Spring was a favorite gathering site for Jerry's Run and nearby residents during the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it also served as a rest stop where tired travelers could refresh themselves with sulphur water. Nearby, a brief Civil War skirmish in 186 resulted in the killing of Confederate James McCray. A one-room school at Jerry's Run operated nearby from 1884 into the 1950s, and the site also hosted Anderson family reunions in the 1920s and 1930s.
