Completed in 1908 in Rochester, New York, the Edward E. Boynton House is the city’s only house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and a rare surviving Prairie-style residence in western New York. Built for lantern manufacturer Edward Everett Boynton and his daughter Beulah, it originally stood on an expansive landscaped property with a reflecting pool, tennis court, gardens, and elm-lined drive. Though the estate was reduced in the 1920s and the house later suffered alterations and neglect, it retained seventeen pieces of original Wright-designed furniture. Preservation efforts beginning in the late 1960s helped secure its landmark status and recognition for its architectural and cultural importance.
