Mount Bonaparte, a 7,262-foot peak in Washington’s Okanogan Highlands near Havillah and Tonasket, is the highest summit on the Washington side of the highlands and the third highest east of the Okanogan River. Noted for its prominence and isolation as well as its elevation, it rises sharply above surrounding terrain and dominates the region. Its forested slopes range from mixed conifer and lodgepole pine below to dense lodgepole pine higher up. Long used for fire detection, the mountain retains significant lookout structures from 1914 and 1960, both listed on the National Historic Lookout Register, and remains an active summer lookout and trail destination.
