Anarchist Mountain is a 1,491-metre peak in British Columbia east of Osoyoos, near the Washington border, and its name also commonly refers to the surrounding rural district and the steep Crowsnest Highway climb from the Okanagan Valley. Officially adopted in 1922 for the plateau between Osoyoos, Rock Creek, and Sidley, the name was given by settler Richard G. Sidley, who also named the nearby community of Sidley. He chose it after prospector John Haywood, who called himself an anarchist. Earlier English-speaking settlers knew the summit as Larch Tree Hill. The mountain is also remembered for a 2003 wildfire that burned 1,230 hectares and destroyed two structures.
