Samuel Patterson operated a flour mill one-fourth mile south. He was a captain in the French and Indian War. During the American Revolution, he was a member of the Boston Relief Committee, colonel of the Delaware battalion of the famous "Flying Camp," brigadier general of the Delaware militia, and the first treasurer of the state of Delaware. He died in 1785 and was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Christiana.
