Built with support from the Mount Union Alumni Athletic Association, the stadium hosted its first football game on November 1, 1913, when Mount Union defeated Case 7-0, and it was formally dedicated during the 1914 graduation ceremony. In 1915, grandstand seating was added, and in 1928, bleachers increased capacity to 5,000. On October 3, 1930, it was the site of Ohio’s first night collegiate football game, in which Mount Union beat Kent State 18-6. Mount Union athletes have competed there in football, track, soccer, and lacrosse, and it has also served as the home field for the Alliance Aviators football team. Originally called Hartshorn Stadium in honor of Mount Union founder Orville Nelson Hartshorn, it was renamed Mount Union Stadium in 1984.
