Mount Lamarck is a 13,417-foot Sierra Nevada peak on the boundary of Kings Canyon National Park and the John Muir Wilderness in California’s Evolution Group. Its dramatic relief rises steeply above Lake Sabrina and Evolution Valley, and Pacific storms feeding rain, snow, and a small glacier send runoff into both eastern and western drainage systems. The mountain’s name reflects a broader scientific naming theme adopted for nearby summits in the late 19th century. Officially named in 1911 in honor of French naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, it was first recorded as climbed on August 15, 1925, by Norman Clyde, later celebrated for many Sierra first ascents.
